How to improve security when using third-party money management apps and websites.

Your online security is of the utmost importance to us. Before you decide to use a third-party service, such as Venmo, Zelle, and Paypal, make sure you know just how they work.

What you should know

  • When you share your online banking login information, third parties have the same access to your information as you do. This means you usually cannot choose what they can and cannot see.
  • Most third parties store your login information, which could be compromised if they have a security breach.
  • Even if you're not actively using the third-party service or you stop using it, they could continue to access your information.

What we do to protect your information

  • All communication between your device and GSB is done over a secure server.
  • We will send you email notifications for all important actions taken on your account, such as adding a new external transfer account, adding a new bill payee, and changing a password.
  • As a secondary layer of protection we will ask you to input your password when completing any important actions, even if you have your password saved onto your device for logging in. In the event your device is stolen or falls into the wrong hands, this extra layer of defense is designed to make sure you are the only one able to complete these important actions.

What you can do to protect your information

  • Change your password regularly.
  • Research apps before downloading. Fraudulent apps are common, be sure to verify you have downloaded the correct one before adding any of your personal information.
  • Use two-factor authentication wherever offered.
  • Never leave your mobile device unattended.
  • Keep your contact information up to date to ensure we can get in touch with you quickly if we detect unusual account activity.
